To Long!

So I have decided to start blogging again. I will be using this for short blogs, long blogs and posting anything I feel like. I will also posted things from other blogs I have done.

I hope to keep this up more. Wish me luck.
I watched American Tale. I notice that many parts of the movie were historically sound. This clip above show a few of the main points.

1. Fievel's family is leaving Russia: Many people left Russia and Eastern Europe during this time and many of those people were Jewish ( its does not say that Fievel's family is Jewish, but they could be)

2. In the song two other groups sing: In the song both Italian and Irish mice sing as well. This to is very historically correct, as these to groups were two of the largest that came to America in the late 19th century

3. The idealized America: In the song America is very idealized. The words "There are no cats in America" reflect the idea that problems of the old Word will not be found in the new one. Early in the film "The Cats" are dressed like aristocrats or "Fat Cats". This idealization of America would not be what most immigrants would experience.

There are many other interesting historical points in this film including the changing of Eastern Europe names into Anglo names like "Smith"

This film shows the power of fictional works to give insight and to tell the story of non-fictional events.
Official plot- All's not well in the Marvel Universe in the year 1602 as strange storms are brewing and strange new powers are emerging! Spider-Man, the X-Men, Nick Fury, Dr. Strange, Daredevil, Dr. Doom, Black Widow, Captain America, and more appear in the waning days of the reign of Queen Elizabeth. As the world begins to change and enter into a new age, Gaiman weaves a thrilling mystery. How and why are these Marvel stars appearing nearly 400 years before they're supposed to?

My Review

This is one of my favorite (non-Moore) comics. It has many of the best characters of the Marvel. Its historic setting is very interesting to anyone who has studied his period of history. The story starts off a little slow, but it picks up in the late half and the becomes very good at the end.

As for the artwork, it is not the best I have seen, but it is still good. Little details like trying to match historic picture to the picture in the comic and the use of a style that matches a more historic work give it some great details.

For those of you who like Neil Gaiman other main work the Sandman be warned that this is not that comic they are very different, but if you like the characters in the Marvel Universe and you like history and the what ifs of history that you will what to read this comic.

The Real Golden Brett

The Hall family is one of hockey’s greatest, but the real Golden Brett is not a Hall, but a Favre. This year Brett Favre has led these team, who missed the playoffs last year, to a 6-1 record. Not only this, but he is the all time leader in games played and won as well as most games in a row played for a QB. This year he also got the record for most TD’s throne and is getting more records every game. He also is a 3 time league MVP and a Superbowl champion. O, yeah in case you did not know he is 36 and he can still throw a pass 50 yards like a laser. Favre often did this with a poor running game or weak receiving core. He has not always had a Harrison or a Rice to pass to or a Smith to hand off too. When asked who would you have QBing your team names like: Brady, Manning, Young, Montana, Elway, Marino, Aikman, Namath, Staubach, Unitas and so on come up. Give me Favre any time. He will win the game for you and be ready next week no matter what. Plus, he puts everything in to everything he does. We see him go through all the highs and lows like no other player in sports. So let's all enjoy a once in a life time athlete as he continues to play the sport he loves.

The Fight to Save Online Poker

Over the past few months I have been discussing Poker. We have looked at Poker today and in the passed. So why, have I been writing about this. Is it because I like to play Poker… well that is true, but that is not the only reason why. I’m writing about Poker because the governments of both Canada and the United States are trying to increase regulation on online Poker. In Canada these ideas came out during the last government under Paul Martin and the new government under Stephen Harper as not done anything on it (which is good), but the idea is still around and could be pushed forward. In the States there are different pieces of legislation in different phases. Some may say what is the big deal? The big deal is clear. The internet is one of the few places were government regulation does not domination our lives. Online Poker unlike in person Poker is not highly regulated. In some states playing poker outside of government controlled areas is all but illegal. The question is why does the government think they need to regulate these things. Why do they think they need to tell us what we can and can not do? Adults should have the right to play Poker online. Online poker has become a front line battle field in the fight against government regulation and interference in your life. So ask your politicians were they stand on online poker. It will give you a clue to their general feelings on government regulation. So look for politicians who support online poker. For this is more that a fight over the right to go all-in with the nut flush, it is a battle for freedom and individual rights.
